The ancient Olympic Games were used to be held at the place called Olympia. The summer Olympics have been contested consistently for every four years except for the times of the first and second world wars. The focus of this top ten ranking would be to point out the Olympic performances that border out on the unbelievable. Over the past few years, there have been a number of unusual Olympic competitions. The 1896 Olympics at Athens only featured a few sailors of the Greek Navy. The 2012 London Olympics feature almost every athlete from all corners of the world. Just like always, this year a number of athletes made their claims to fame by setting out some new world records. Below is the list of the top 10 new world records in summer Olympics of 2012.

 

10. Un Guk Kim

The current record holder and gold medalist for the 327 kg weight class, Un Guk Kim managed to take Korea all the way towards the top of the podium. The record which Un Guk broke was previously boasted by Zhang Jie. Not to forget that the record of Zhang Jie had been around for quite some time till it was broken the North Korean power bomb.

 

9. Missy Franklin

One of the youngest and most celebrated American athletes, Missy Franklin managed to take four straight gold medals in the 100 and 200 m medley and free style finals. The school girl really had the time of her life, as she set her name in the list of the top world record holders. The world record was set by her in the 200 and 400 m free style, backstroke and medley finals.

 

8. Lu Xiaojun

Lu Xiajun is the current world record holder in the weight lifting snatch competition. He managed to win the men’s  77 kg class alongside another countryman named Lu Haojie. The title was being defended by the South Korean, Sa Jae Hyouk who unfortunately got injured in the snatch competition and was forced to exit the competition.

 

7. Sun Yang

The winner of the 400 and 1500 m free style finals, Sun Yang managed to take two gold medals.Remembered for the performances given by him in the Beijing Olympics 2008, Yang was really one of the heart favorites for the competition. Just like most of the Chinese athletes, Yang was also subject to a number of controversies throughout the competition.

 

6. Men’s Cycling: Team Sprint

Now finally we have the event which was not led by the United States or Chinese teams. The Great Britain Men’s Cycling Team led by Sir Chris Hoy took the gold medal after facing some pretty tough competition from the side of the French Team. Surprisingly, The Great Britain team managed to win most of the gold medals in this specific form of sport.

 

5. 3000m Team Pursuit

All around the Olympics 2012, there was a lot going inside and outside of the Velodrome where a number of world records were at stake. Out of the 10 major events, The Great Britain team managed to take 9 straight gold medals, thus giving something to their countrymen to cheer for. Now here we are not only talking about the men’s team, but also the women’s team which managed to rise above all odds.

 

4. Jamaican 100 m Men’s Relay Team

With Usain Bolt, Yohan Blake, Nesta Carter and Michael Frater, the Jamaica 100 m Men’s Relay Team was all set to amaze the world. Although the team faced some tough competition from the side of the United States, still it was Jamaica that emerged successful in the end. Not to forget the 36.84 seconds world record set by the team.

 

3. The United States 100 m Women’s Relay Team

Boasting the world record of 40.82 seconds, Carmelita Jeter was all excited on winning the 100m finals. Unlike the men’s competition in which Jamaica managed to take down the United States, the Women’s Team managed to outplay the Jamaican Women’s Team. The other team members were Tianna Madison, Allyson Felix and Bianca Knight.

 

2. David Rudisha

One of the most talented and gifted middle distance runners in the world, David Rudisha has really set the mark for the 21st century. His unbelievable 800 m gold medal was indeed not less than a surprise. On Thursday the whole world turned on their TV sets for seeing Usain Bolt, butin the end they found themselves staring uncontrollably on the Historical win of David Rudisha.Labeled as one of the most impressive and talented track players in the game, David was simply unbelievable.

 

1. Ye Shiwen

So, the number 1 spot goes to Ye Shiwen who also happens to be one of the most controversial athletes to enter the London Olympics 2012. All the conspiracies had started just after the two unexpected gold medal wins of Ye Shiwen. She was indeed the star icon of the 200 and 400m individual medley finals. Not to forget the statement made by John Leonard who happens to be one of the most experienced swimming coaches in the world. In simple words, he doubted the gold medal wins of Ye Shiwen by saying that it might be a drug use case similar to the one of Michelle Smith, an Irish Swimmer. In response, Ye Shiwen stated that the Chinese athletes work much harder than all other athletes and that the International media is all jealous of her win.
